What competencies are important when moving from individual contributor to manager to executive?

As individual contributors move from individual contributor to executive, the conceptual challenges increase requiring leaders to be more flexible and open to learning and making decisions under uncertainty.  As such, it is important in your career to develop those skills early before the stakes get too high (Eichinger, Lombardo, and Ulrich, 2004).
